DGR is an abbreviation for Deep Geological Repository. It is used in context of all kinds of nuclear waste: low level (LAW), medium level (MAW) and high level radioactive waste (HAW).

Examples:

  • Morsleben final repository - licensed for low and medium level radioactive waste (LMAW), but also used for the "temporary" storage of some HAW, that ended up there with no alternative to be disposed to somewhere else. It has been the former central final repository for nuclear waste in the GDR, now it is one of the two final nuclear waste legacies in Germany (used by Western Germany to dump even higher amounts of nuclear waste there then what came from former GDR facilities).
