Call for an international Anti-nuclear Action Summer

  • You can download this call in English/German here.

We are calling for an international anti-nuclear action summer 2017! In several countries initiatives and organizations are preparing actions, camps and gatherings in the struggle against a still powerful atomic industry. While a few countries officially decided to implement so-called "nuclear phase-out policies", which often don't deserve this title, in many other regions the atomic lobbyists successfully pushed through an extension of lifetime for old reactors or even the development of additional nuclear facilities. Join the anti-nuclear activities this summer and become part of a movement against the dominance and threatening of atomic power!

As isolated groups won't be able to impact on ruling governments and powerful companies alone, we aim on connecting the campaigns and actions to strengthen the anti-nuclear struggles. There will be manifold events this summer addressing the cause from different viewpoints with various means. There should be something suitable for everyone...

With this call we want to help to spread the word about the upcoming anti-nuclear events and ask you to support the cause with your participation! Participating in two or more events will also create a real network between the initiatives as everyone will transfer ideas & knowledge as well as inspiration & dedication from action to action. We want to encourage you to an event-hopping to sustain the important ongoing anti-nuclear struggles in many regions.

We as the groups calling on an international anti-nuclear action summer 2017 are partly involved in preparing some of the events, or we just support the idea of this campaign to strengthen the anti-nuclear fight for an emancipated society without nuclear threats.

Supporters of this call:

Neckar Castor protests

342 high level radioactive spent fuel elements from the 2005 decommissioned Obrigheim NPP including 48 fuel elements made from reprocessed uranium and 40 much plutonium containing MOX fuel elements, which both emit a much stronger radiation than normal spent fuel, assembled to 15 Castor casks will be shipped by Neckar river to the interim storage site at Neckarwestheim NPP. Protests are announced by the alliance Bündnis Neckar castorfrei.

The information about the concrete days of transport is kept secret by operator and authorities, it will become public only on short notice. Thus, you should keep yourself up to date and subscribe the alarm lists provided by the alliance. Manifold protest actions have been announced. Support them by spreading the word and/or joining the blockades during the transport! For the day of the first of the five proposed Castor shipments a rally will start at 9 AM in Heilbronn outside the railway station. Additional actions will take place during the transport nearby and on Neckar river. Info point during this first of the high active shipments will be a vigil in Heilbronn near Theresienwiese.

Endless birthday party in the forests of Bure

We can feel today that the meaning of our lives can be found in autonomous communities. In the occupied rooms of the University, in the self-managed canteens, in the "zone to defend" (ZAD)... In Bure, the political quest for autonomy is taking place both in the collectives houses we bought and Lejuc wood. One year ago, we nested after having an endless pic nic in the wood to prevent the first construction works of the CIGEO project. From the 19 to 26 of June 2017, we want to celebrate this all year by having an endless birthday party into the woods!

We've been told that Lejuc wood can be evicted anytime, and the owls living there won't survive summer 2017. This is what the authorities want us and need us to believe, but we won't play their game. This won't be a celebration of nostalgia: we want to create a new spark of life in the forest, new links between people, new practical attacks.

Chain Reaction Tihange

On June 25, 2017 the human chain for the immediate shutdown of the nuclear power plants Tihange 2 and Doel 3 will start. We, people from three countries with different languages, are protesting together hand-in-hand for our goal. With the human chain, we put widely visible sign of tens of thousands, against the threat to millions of European citizen. Every meter counts! - We need you! Only together we make this chain reaction become reality.

International Action Camp: "Stop the new U.S. nuclear bomb"

United we can stop the planned nuclear bomb! Please join the campaign to send the existing US nuclear weapons back home, and to organize against the new B61-12 nuclear bomb, scheduled to be built in the US by 2020 and deployed in five European countries - Italy, Belgium, Holland, Turkey, and Germany.

We invite anti-nuclear, environmental and peace activists from Europe and the U.S. to our camp on July 12-18, 2017 at the main gate of the military base in Büchel. The international week of actions is part of our 20 weeks of action from March 26th to August 9th. Twenty weeks represent the 20 B61 H-bombs at Büchel. Our peace camp includes networking, vigils, and nonviolent civil resistance. This international week is the first one uniting with anti-nuclear resistance in the US, the country where construction of the bomb is taking place.

International Anti-nuclear Summer Camp

An international camp will take place from July 17-23, 2017 in Döbeln, Germany. So far (as of March 2017), more than 40 people from 15 countries have announced their participation. We expect that some 60-100 organizers, activists and other interested people will come together this summer to get to know each other, inform about nuclear issues in their regions, campaigns and actions and to strengthen the network of anti-nuclear groups and initiatives. Two focus topics have been selected: the uranium chain, which also connects all nuclear topics to each other, and the construction of new reactors or extension of lifetime of aging nuclear power plants.

Particularly in these two main fields representatives of organizations working on these topics will share knowledge about atomic facilities, companies and politics. They will present their campaigns and projects and are seeking for new cooperations with other groups and activists to improve the movement's capabilities to fight the global nuclear industry. If you want to participate, please register at "summercamp AT nuclear-heritage DOT net"[1]. Learn more on the camp website:

DRS Open Day Protest

DRS (Direct Rail Services) will be holding there annual open day at their Kingmoor depot in Carlisle, on Saturday 22nd July 2017. We will be at holding another protest leafleting session on the day from 10.30. to 14.30. This event is being organised by CCC in cooperation with Radiation Free Lakeland as a part of Working Alliance. All of which is being organised by just a few activists.

Internationalistic Anti Nuclear Summer Camp and Free Flow Festival

A camp will take place between August 7 and 16, 2017 on the meadow, for which activists and interested people from all over the world are invited. Not as a competition but as a supplement to the camp in Döbeln, we are planning lectures, discussions, workshops and an action day on the subject of nuclear waste, nuclear transports, uranium mining and human rights. We hope to live the integration of the issues and activists of the Wendland and to carry out some networking covering all continents and issues. We will try to invite people from Standing Rock to Gedelitz within the scope of a tour, as a symbolic gesture of our solidarity support and as an expression for our mutual fight. Boarding is planned with the Vokü in addition to a small-scale menu of the Wiese Pub. The price for the Camp shall be affordable for everybody and shall be graded. Children are free. The Free Flow Festival will take place at the weekend. Further information soon on our own website and on the website of the organizers, the citizens' initiative Umweltschutz Lüchow-Dannenberg.

Festival Les Bure'lesques

An informative, festive and inventive festival open to all, families, friends, locals and people from farther away will take place from August 11-13, 2017 in the area of the supposed nuclear waste repository in Bure, France. "Cigéo" is the name of the planned deep geological storage site for nuclear waste. It is being prepared despite unprecedented and well-known technological risks, against the advice of thousands of opposing people including residents who never have been consulted. This territory of life would be transformed into an enormous radioactive waste dump undergoing an irreversible mutation.
