As we want to make plain to the Finnish government and the international nuclear industry that they have to expect strong resistance against their plans to extend the nuclear developments, the ''Baltic Sea Info Tour'' is supposed to come back to Finland in the end. We are not only starting our action in this country that is refered to as a proof of the so-called ''Nuclear Renaissance'' - we will enforce our demand of a nuclear free world by ending up in Finland again. Thus we want to show our solidarity and support of the local anti-nuclear movements.

Tour Stop in Oulu

Oulu is the sixth biggest city in Finland and the biggest city in Northern Finland, some 550 kilometers north of Helsinki. It is part of the region of Northern Ostrobothnia, bordering to the region of Lapland in the North.[1] Activists here and in the higher North are dealing with Fennovoima's plan to construct a new NPP in Simo (Lapland) or Pyhäjoki (50 kilometer south of Oulu) and with several proposals for uranium mines[2].

As we wanted to make plain to the Finnish government and the international nuclear industry that they have to expect strong resistance against their plans to extend the nuclear developments, the Baltic Sea Info Tour was supposed to come back to Finland in the end. We were not only starting our action in this country that is refered to as a proof of the so-called Nuclear Renaissance - we enforced our demand of a nuclear free world by ending up in Finland again. Thus we wanted to show our solidarity and support of the local anti-nuclear movements.

The Baltic Sea Info Tour stopped from August 18-20 in Oulu, the day after we had the final evaluation of the infotour. We provided a public information event, a public street action and a regional network gathering here. On Sunday 22th-23rd there was a Biketour to Pyhäjoki. Afterwards there were possibilities for participants of the infotour to join other anti-nuclear activities in Finland to support the local movements. One week later, on August 28 an international blockade of the Olkiluoto NPP took place.
