Ranua is one of the locations in Finland where Areva proposed to mine for Uranium. On August 13th first actions took place in several cities because the municipality of Ranua wanted to decide if they oppose against or agree with Areva's plans to explore for Uranium in Ranua. The decision was cancelled as the municipality board claimed there would be no need for this decision as they already had voted for the mining plans. Caused by international pressure a new municipality decision is expected after October 14th, 2009.
Finnish and internatinal activists want to do actions and public information to prevent Areva from Uranium drilling. This page informs about activities and backgrounds of the Uranium drilling in Ranua/Lapland.
