Pyhäjoki municipality’s welcoming: What is the municipality’s official perspective to the nuclear power plant project

"On Thursday 1st of August our Case Pyhäjoki public presentation program began after a short introduction and welcoming by Pyhäjoki municipality representative Jyri Laakso, development manager. His job is to develop an operational environment for companies, to help new companies locating at Pyhäjoki, aswell as market Pyhäjoki to companies and to their employees ́ families. He introduced us to the basic facts about Pyhäjoki, it’s symbols (the goose, the goose-stone), attractions and unique features, starting with it’s special natural features Pyhäjoki river itself, and the nearby Sea – the Gulf of Bothnia. In terms of human development features the Kielosaari campsite was mentioned as a lovely place to stay, next to Eteläkylän Isosilta bridge, built in 1837, and oldest wooden bridge still in use in Finland, currently under-renovation). He also noted the Entrepreneurial -focused High-School (also our public events venue) as good model for others, the art-loans system of the local Pyhäjoki Library, and also the quirky idea that there is Kalifornia neighbourhood nearby, and Kari’s unique car-repair-workshop karaoke.. As well as, of course, our reason for gathering: Hanhikivi 1 nuclear power project, from the standpoint of the municipality."[1]
