Many thanks, Falk! Yes, it is great to see the site expanding. I'm enjoying working with you and Hanno. Sunshine 00:32, 27 September 2008 (CEST)

country pages

Hi Sunshine!
I thought about if we could form the pages about nuclear issues in some countries to special country pages. There was the idea from Finnish people to use this wiki for their work (instead of using a further website for information about their projects, actions and backgrounds) - so the first country page ist Finland and I think this could lead to more usage of this wiki. Maybe the pages you worked on could be linked there or could be used while creating those special country action pages... What do you think? --Falk 20:05, 25 October 2008 (CEST)

Hi Falk! Good to see the wiki expanding and the Finnish people getting involved. But I think that we need descriptive titles for each page, not just the country name. If "Anti-nuclear movement in ..." is not suitable, maybe try "Nuclear controversy in ...". If we use just the country name then the articles will not show up in google searches about "anti-nuclear" and "nuclear controversy" topics, and so people would miss this website. Also, if we just use the country name we would leave the pages open to additions from pro-nuclear people and I really don't think this is what we want. Just a few thoughts, for what they are worth... Maybe a good idea. But I won't change the title of the country pages "Finland" and "Russia" on myself because there were some discussions with people about the names in Finland. I will propose those people to change the title. Think this is the best way of handling it. --Falk 10:41, 26 October 2008 (CET)
Just to add... I think we should have each country name as a category, and I have started to set up the Germany category just to show how things could be... see Category: Germany... When someone enters the name Germany into the search box on the left, that is what they get... effectively a listing of all items we have relating to Germany... How does this look to you? We could do this for each country... hope this helps... Sunshine 04:14, 26 October 2008 (CET)
I think this is a good idea. I added now the categories "Finland" and "Russia" on these pages and will add a hint to this to the "help" page. --Falk 10:41, 26 October 2008 (CET)

Main page

Hi Sunshine!
Have answered your comment on main page. Here I want especially talk with you about the "notoc" element. I put it on the page again because I did it before with intention. I think it doesn't look nice for the main page to have this element there. If you had a special idea when you deleted this entry (notoc), please explain me - I don't want to ignore your ideas of how the page should be designed, so let's talk about it. --Falk 15:08, 2 November 2008 (CET)

Thanks for your note. I just think the TOC presents a summary and gives easy acess to items below. Very useful for longer pages. Sunshine 22:45, 2 November 2008 (CET)
Summary with links is good, I think so, too. But the usual mediawiki TOC seems to me not very good; it should be better modulated to the page. Do you know alternative TOCs? If not, I would prefer to use a manual TOC... --Falk 01:56, 8 November 2008 (CET)

redirection of Finland link

I don't understand why people who click on "Finland" in the country page box should be redirected to the category page. Wouldn't it be better to have the "Nuclear controversy in Finland" page as the start page of this country page link? --Falk 15:14, 2 November 2008 (CET)

I don't have strong feelings about this, so have changed it now... Sunshine 22:47, 2 November 2008 (CET)

New Articles section on the main page

Hey Sunshine!

I would like to discuss the "New Articles" section you once created on the main page.

Since this time much has been improved on this website and I would like to organize this part different. At the moment it creates the impression that visitors will find new articles in this section although it is updated rarely and most new articles can not be found there. I guess it is also because I can't deal so good with the main aim of this section that it is in general about "new articles"...

What I want to suggest is that we create a link "new articles" in the sidebar and that we:

  1. link the basic "new articles" special page of the MediaWiki software there (then automatically all new articles would be found there), or
  2. link a new page there which includes this section you created (then it would be good to update it more frequently).

What do you think about it?

BTW: can you send me your email address or phone number, maybe it's easier to discuss in detail more in person than on the webpage...

Happy New Year Falk!

I haven't looked in here for a while and only just got your message. But I am email-enabled now so please feel free to use that option. I am still quite interested in anti-nuclear issues; my focus is the USA and Australia.

I think we need a list of new articles on the main page, but am not sure how to best do this. Certainly I am happy to contribute a few more articles, and help to maintain the new articles list if you wish...

-- Sunshine 23:17, 10 January 2010 (CET)

Hey Sunshine!

I am not sure what it means that you're "email-enabled" now? You get emails if I leave a message for you at this place? (I didn't find an email address or so... - but I am not familiar with all MediaWiki functions...)

My suggestion is to create a new box in the left navigation bar or at least one new link like "new articles". If it makes sense it could be a "new articles" box with stuff like "new articles", "new images" etc. What do you think. Or do you think it is necessary to have the articles on the main page?

We could also create another layout with text boxes - like on the Ranua page...

--Falk 22:38, 23 January 2010 (CET)

Hey Falk!

Thanks for letting me know that you weren't sure about the "e-mail enabled" thing. What I meant was that if you click on the "Email this user" button in the toolbox to the left, then you can send me an email if you wish. But, honestly, I think the Talk pages are best, as other people can join in too, and I will make a point of checking in here more often. So that should improve communication.

I really think that it is necessary to have a list of recent (or recently updated) articles on the main page, as we have quite a nice collection of articles now, and should list a few key ones for people to look at. I will add a few more articles to the site and update the list soon.

Ok, I guess if you update the list from time to time, it would be fine to leave it on the mainpage as it is now... --Falk 15:11, 28 January 2010 (CET)

Hope these comments help...

Sunshine 23:11, 23 January 2010 (CET)

Done. Please feel free to add some categories to the new articles and make any other improvements. Thanks. Sunshine 03:29, 28 January 2010 (CET)
Hey, you're doing great work! At the moment I don't have time to add categories to the new articles. I guess people can do it later... --Falk 15:10, 28 January 2010 (CET)

page titles

I saw that you changed the titles of some pages (e.g. the German Country page from large capitals (first letters) to small letters) - for my impression it looks better if the page titles are written like headlines, and as far as I know there it's usual to use large capitals for the first letters of certain words... Did you have a special reason for changing that?<br/ --Falk 15:19, 5 February 2010 (CET)

Hi Falk, I'm just following standard Wiki style, as used in the English Wikipedia etc. I think this works best. Sunshine 05:15, 10 February 2010 (CET)
Yes, that's right, but Wikipedia is just an encyclopedia - our webpage is "more". The most pages are a kind of articles. And as far as I understand English language it is very common to write headlines of articles with capital first letters... Would you be ok with leaving it as I did before? --Falk 19:02, 11 February 2010 (CET)

Moving on

Falk, I really think it's best if I move on. I appreciate that this is very much your site and you have very particular ideas about what you want to do with it. Best wishes... Sunshine 21:22, 14 February 2010 (CET)

Hey, Sunshine! I hope you will continue your activities here! And I hope that you understood this to be a discussion to find out how we should design the page; and that I don't want to push through my opinion, but want to argue different opinions. --Falk 22:56, 14 February 2010 (CET)
