Fennovoima is a Finnish company of a big number of local electricity companies and with the German EON company as a main stakeholder. They want to establish a third nuclear reactor site in Finland besides Olkiluoto and Lovisa. In Simo the Mayor welcomed Fennovoima and the idea of a NPP at this location.

On July 24, 2009 obviously anti-nuclear activists attacked the Fennovoima office in Simo. The graffitis say "We take the profits, you get the radiation" and "We offer you cancer, radioactive waste, environmental destruction...a warm feeling for future generations".

This was the first action against atomic power in Lapland. Hopefully these won't be the last direct actions against the nuclear industry in the North of Finland...

First dircect actions against the nuclear company FENNOVOIMA in Northern Finland! Paint attacks to show what a nuclear reactor will make with people and environment... FENNOVOIMA is a company formed by a big number of Finnish electricity providers and the German EON company as a main stakeholder.

FEENOVOIMA wants to establish the third nuclear reactor site in Finland besides Loviisa and Olkiluoto. The Mayor of Simo welcomed this industry in his village. Many residents of the area are opposing the NPP plans.

On 24.7. we decided to add some content onto the empty walls of Fennovoima offices in Simo, and help the nuclear power company in their advertisement work. "We take the profits, you get the radiation" and "We offer you cancer, radioactive waste, environmental destruction...a warm feeling for future generations". The company may have trouble opening the doors on monday.

Fennovoima is planning to build Finland's sixth nuclear reactor by the fish harbor in Simo's Karsikko. The industry and head of Simo's municipality want to turn Simo into a nuclear municipality. Similar stories are found elsewhere in Finland. People are made to believe that nuclear power only produces clean energy, so we felt it was our duty to complement the product description. It was a pleasure to cooperate!
